Seasons Turn
The time of year has "fallen" upon us where foliage turns brown, drops and blows with the cold winds of October. I try to remember that this state of nature is temporary and will pass. Tree limbs will bear little buds in the Spring once again. However, that is five months away. 150 days. 3,600 hours. 216,000 minutes.
Our bodies are screaming out for more sunshine, and the Midwest does not provide an abundance of sunlight during these months. Sickness in the way of colds and flu attack all ages. We fight to stay well. To stay warm. To keep a smile on our faces.
Trick or Treaters bring smiles to kids' faces. The smell of pumpkin spice air scents fill the air....and wintergreen and cranberry. Family get-togethers are imminent and managed with vows to suppress comments and forced gaiety with difficult family members. The insane bustle of Yuletide consumerism sucks us into its vortex of unyielding demands.
Then there are the Hallmark movies that are floated before us. Promises, colors, cheers, hopes, angst, compassion, dreams, lushness, beauty, glamour, simplicity, and yearning for that which Christmas promises us.
This year will be different. My attitude will be different. I will hold on to hope, health and happiness. I will embrace being able to live through another season of a bombardment of a multitude of emotions. God Bless Us One and All.
